Do I Need Termite Coverage?

We are frequently asked about termites in our area. Are there Formosan
Termites? Do I need a termite warranty? Can termites eat through my concrete slab to get into my house? To answer all these questions in a word, Yes! Yes - there are Formosan Termites in Mobile and Baldwin County. Yes - most people should have a termite warranty on their home or office. Yes - termite can eat through concrete to get to the wood frame of your house. For more details about termite biology, please review our Termite Page.

As for your termite warranty, let’s take the following example. You, the homeowner, invest thousands of dollars for the purchase of your home. You pay hundreds of dollars for your home owners insurance policy covering everything from theft to hurricanes. You choose NOT to have a termite warranty from a reputable company. You do all of your home maintenance so that there are no water leaks, shrubbery against your house or trees touching your roof line. In ten years, you discover that you have termites. Are termites covered as part of your homeowner insurance policy? No. Now, you need to have your house treated from termites and you have to pay for the repairs to your house out of your own pocket.

But, you think to yourself, my house is brand new, less than 5 years old. Surely I don’t need to worry about termites for years to come. We wish that were true friends, but it is not. Let’s take a look at the following pictures to illustrate how important termite coverage can for your piece of mind and your pocket book.

Termite Tubes

Here are the basic facts:

This house was only 3 years old when we were called to the property. These pictures are all from the same house in Silverhill, AL.

We were so shocked by the termite activity in this NEW HOME that when we went back a second time, we brought along our camera.

Termite Tubes Hanging down from Floor Joist

The next 5 pictures detail the extent of damage to this house. As you look at these keep in mind that this is a fairly new house...

Termite Activity

Termite Stalagties

The termites will create stalactites and stalagmites as they search for the ground. Termites draw moisture from the soil so periodically, they must return to the ground for a
drink.

Tube Vision

This was a really aggressive colony. Sadly, for this customer they did not have an active termite warranty.

Consider this: What if this had been your house? Who are you willing to trust with strength of your home? Who do you trust to take care of your home properly, to insure and ensure that your home will never look like this?

(We hope it’s us!)

Tube over Duct Work

Rebuilt in 3 days

Here you can see an example of how fast termites can work. The hand in the left side of the image is holding up a section of tube that he had removed during the initial inspection. The darker section we have highlighted in the photo shows where termites have rebuilt their tunnel. The reason this part of the tube is darker is that the mud is still damp from the termite secretions that help to support their tunnels.
